How have you come to this conclusion? Ton isn't a part of the SI prefixes nor is it 100 anything, if I remember correctly. A ton is something like... 900+ kilograms isn't it?

Tonne, however, is another name for megagram. Edit: Woops, I meant mega is 1,000,000 (or 1,000kg).

I still can't make sense of what Predator said though but I'm not all that worried smiley There's a thread with my name in the title, and it's doing well to stroke my ego.

Maybe he meant a gross ton, which is 100 cubic feet of internal capacity?

A ton is colloquially used to refer to 100 of a given unit. Ton can thus refer to 100 points in a game e.g. "Eric just threw a ton in our darts game" (in some games, e.g. cricket, more commonly called a century); or to a hundred of pretty much anything else.

In Britain, a ton is colloquially used to refer to 100 of a given unit. Ton can thus refer to a speed of 100 miles per hour e.g. "Lee was doing a ton down the motorway"; to money e.g. "How much did you pay for that?" "A ton" (£100); to 100 points in a game e.g. "Eric just threw a ton in our darts game" (in some games, e.g. cricket, more commonly called a century); or to a hundred of pretty much anything else.
I say you still lose seeing as we don't live in Britain.

This is the first I've ever heard it used this way.

I have never heard a ton being used to mean exactly 100. In the phrase 'there were a ton of people at the party' I've never heard someone mean for ton to represent one hundred.

Doesn't change the fact that 400 is closer to 1000 than 4000 is.

I..... win?

You reached 400 posts, you have not reached 4000 posts. Gordy is therefore congratulating you on reaching both the 400 post milestone and the 1001 post milestone, but obviously not the 4000 post milestone because you have not reached 4000 posts, thereby meaning Gordy was implying a ton is 100, and therefore meaning... I.... win?

You would win if we lived in Britain or particularly cared what colloquialisms are used in cricket.

Since I don't, the only number I am willing to accept for ton is 907.18474.

Since I have reached neither 3628.73896 posts nor the non-existent number associated with your crazy use of the word, nobody wins.
