I am outraged that we have to pay to play these up and coming games map packs, it is absolutly unheard of in the pc world, what r we thinking omg this is utterly bullshit and unfair to anyone who pays $100 for the game in the first place , I hate where all this is leading on pc it makes me want to send viruses and crash steam to teach them a lesson, the pc world is a world is without rules and should be kept that way we r the dreamers that make consoles even exist so why should we pay out our arse like they do, their the ones who chose to go console and pay out through the butt cheeks not us.Im sick and tired that steam is trying to take over the market and putting a drm on all its games! if i want to play offline i should be able to! what happens when i have no net i cant play my games this aint fair we all should stand up and take a rally to all forums and make a stand against pay to play games isnt paying to buy enough? where will it end HuhHuhHuhHuh?

What you do is.. you don't buy the games.

Or jump off a cliff. That would work too.

Just don't buy them. And Ubisoft is responsible for that DRM, not Valve.

I haven't bought MW2 or Assassin's Creed 2 or the new Prince of Persia for those reasons. Which sucks, because I was looking forward to all of them. Oh well.

Ass Creed 2 is amazing on a console, but having experienced Ubi's DRM firsthand (Settlers, how could you?) - as in, being completely unable to play my game, I wouldn't do it on the PC.

MW2, I also feel, is rad - as for the 2nd DLC, I'll probably skip because none of my friends will get it, and I pretty much never play on my own anymore. Even though it looks better than DLC1.

How much are they charging?

I guess they are trying to squeeze every dollar out of gamers. Seems like just charging for the game isn't enough these days.

There's a very simply answer to the issue on console......game trading.

I swap my 360 games all the time with mates, as a result I usually buy 1/3 to 1/4 of the games I ever play - that is why the devs charge so much and why each person has to pay for the map packs - to recoup their costs compared to the 1 for everyone PC market.

Obviously if they try and bring that kind of economics to the PC market, it would be based on false logic, and therefor FUBAR.

I am pretty sure they don't charge for DLC on consoles because they need to make up for lost sales. They really doesn't make sense at all given the amount of piracy of PC games. (Good) Game developers who work with the PC understand that they're only going to sell their games if they offer great service. This is why Valve's games sell really well and Assassin's Creed 2 and anything else with annoying DRM (Spore) don't. The reason they charge for DLC on consoles is because they can get away with it. Console gamers don't have a choice, and I imagine the developers are forced to slap a price on everything by Microsoft, Sony and Nintendo (especially Microsoft). This idea that they can get away with it has carried over to the PC recently, like with Modern Warfare 2. However, if I remember correctly, only around two percent of the total purchases of the game were made on the PC. Activision offered really, really sh*tty service with that game and nobody wanted to buy it. The stimulus package went on sale on steam two or three times within a month - I like to imagine it's because nobody bought it.

Anyway, in response to the original poster, I have no idea why you're angry with Steam. The cost of DLC and the DRM used is entirely up to the developers of the game. Valve are the good guys when it comes to PC gaming.

Yeah, there must be a lot of that going on.. but I don't see how much different it is to anybody letting a mate borrow a CD or DVD. If they aren't selling enough copies they have to really look at both the quantity and quality of some of the titles. Yearly titles are becoming such a joke, it's no wonder people aren't that keen on shelling out every year for only an extra 3 features from the last game.
