Resident Evil 5 (360)

Stayed up til 2AM last night to get it finished, the last boss was one of the most annoying I've fought. The final phase was just punishment, and the only ammo I had left was a grenade launcher, so I literally had to knife the last boss, and then shoot an acid gren at him.. over.. and over.. and over again. The game was good but story REALLY sucked, and it wasn't scary at all.

Dead Space > RE5 rly.

Yeah, MW is great. I'm really pumped for MW2, fourzerotwo's twitter is pumping it up pretty hard. The ending blew me away the first time I saw it. That and the end of the first chapter, the aftermath. Those two parts just wowed me beyond pretty much anything I'd played before then. And 'All Ghillied Up' is like the best level ever made ever.

P.S. Chief, you know after you shoot the thing in his back and then his chest he stumbles a bit, you can run behind him and restrain him and if you do the QTE event hard enough (you need to smash heaps fast) you kill him straight away.
That bit gave me trouble, I had not ammo either, I did half with the knife in the end.
I thought the bit where you push that boulder out of the way was cool. I was like 'OMG CHRIS IS SOOOO HUGE!'

Ah well I'm never doing it again. I think most of the bosses had easy ways like that to kill them as theres achievements for like "stab the heart of a certain somebody" and that sort of thing. I was just getting agro as I wanted to take it back to work yesterday and every try was a little less sleep I was going to get Tongue

Just finished Kingdom Hears II yesterday. 33 hours of joy. Now I just need to get motivated to level up my party in Blue Dragon so I can beat the final boss in that without dying straight away. >.<

Mad, finished FEAR2 which was an awesome experience, and finally GTA4 in the same night.

Would have done GTA heaps earlier, but I think I red ringed when I was last playing and then I lent it to a friend. Got it back today and turns out I was really close to the end. I gotta say, until GTA4 I was never a fan, and that game manages to give me a warm feeling inside. I guess it makes me feel we're in a bit of a golden age as far as games go, in cinematics, story, multiplayer, graphics, everything.

I thought F.E.A.R. 2 had a really good ending. How sick is it when you crawl through that hole in the wall into the courtyard and you're like...... oh wow, I didn't expect to actually see that!?

Yeah that bit was very cool. And really creepy. Now I think about it, it reminds me of a similar thing in geist. That game has some awesome moments (FEAR2 that is). It made me drop the F bomb at one point which is pretty damn rare.

The ending was cool and CREEPY and kind of gross at the same time, and it kind of disappointed me that I didn't have much closure but it certainly leads the way for a very scary and interesting sequel.

Games are getting better and better at endings, and also beginnings, I think. They seem to be the most cinematic and kind of awe inspiring bits now, which is fine. CoD 4 has a great ending, things like Dead Space have pretty cool introductions. GTA4 intro was pretty cool, but I think the story hit its peak with Dimitri's betrayal. the 'play by the rules' bit, that oozed atmosphere.

I'm trying to think of some more examples, and I know they exist. I'll get back to you!

Bioshock.

When it first came out I gave it a crack and utterly hated everything about it, got 30mins in and quit. A mate was playin it last week and it got me interested again - played it right through this time and really enjoyed it, still a little too brutal/f*kd up for my tastes, but meh.

ODST, good twist on the formula in campaign, firefight is a bit of fun split screen but I don't think I'll get back into online at all.
Probably could have finished it and be happy in 2 nights of renting or something.

Ar Tonelico 2 and Mana Khemia 2. Two great RPGs by Gust, I've spent many hours playing through them both and having a good time. smiley If you're into RPGs, these series come highly recommended!

Finished ODST last night, pretty decent. After completing it, I'm still happy to say that I think it is the direction Bungie wanted to take Halo 2 but MS wanted something more straight forward to appeal to a wider audience.

Games also finished recently: Need for Speed: SHIFT, DiRT 2, Wolfenstein, Section 8, Guitar Hero 5 and Batman Arkham Asylum

How was NFS Shift? I've played the last few and they were all pretty much the same thing.

I played Shift at a friends place and didn't really like it, but it's because it was pretty unforgiving at the stage he was at. And I don't really like realistic-driving games. The racing line guide is handy though.

Ummmmmmmmmmmm
Nah haven't finished anything else lately.

Yeah  I read MC's review and I'm not entirely biting at the bit to get the new NFS now, I prefer the more arcade / less realistic drivers, I enjoyed NFS: Prostreet for that style of gameplay. I hate GT, Forza etc so I doubt I'd enjoy this one.

Uncharted, finally. Thought I should finish it before 2 comes out. Didn't really like it the first time I played it... and there were still things that annoyed me but overall it's pretty good, good production values and the story isn't too bad. Graphics are nice.

But I hate it when games drop their normal enemies for mutants. I hate it! Everything does it. Far Cry, this, the new Crackdown is, there are a whole bunch of em, and it annoys the  out of me.

I know what you mean, though at least it did fit in with the story fairly well. It seems we'll be free of them in Uncharted 2 though, so far so good.

Finished Uncharted 2 today.
Wow, a hell of a lot better than the first one. It is probably up there with my favourites this gen, as far as a first go around, because I don't think I'll want to play it again, at least not for a long time.

It's very clever, very pretty, very 'cinematic'. My friend watched me play through most of the game 'cause it seemed as much like a movie to him as it was a game. Which is cool, really.

The only part I didn't love was the last boss... that could have been cooler. I think a lot of games have that problem.

Played through Brutal Legend yesterday, didn't do most of the side stuff but I did what I could bare. Anything that has Jack Black influence is hard to stand.

The game was good though, you just have to REALLY like metal to love it.

Yeah, Uncharted 2's last boss is a bit weak/predictable. It's not a big deal though, since the rest of the game is just so good. I started a playthrough of the game on hard after finishing it, but I don't know if I'll complete it any time soon. I went back to the original game instead and have been collecting up the rest of the treasures and playing through it on Crushing difficulty (which really earns its name).

Yeah, I like the last moments to be close to the most memorable though. They could have done something really cool, it was just such a lame idea compared to the rest. MGS4 had a cool end, I remember it fondly. Uncharted 2 will forever be known to me as an awesome game with a  end boss. Even the movie part of the ending is good.

Didn't like the enemy AI at all in Uncharted so I'd never go near Crushing Tongue Had a frustrating enough time on normal.

Also, finished Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising. Sick game, love these sort of ones. With the lights off and the surround cranked it can get veryyyyy intense. Not like CoD Veteran intense - because you're often shooting long distances of a hundred metres to like three hundred, so neither you or your enemy are hugely accurate, but bullets are whistling past non stop and any one of those can kill you in a single head shot. When they start kicking up dirt near you or you get hit in the leg or arm, it gets your heart pumping.

I like the way they do difficulty too - normal mode gives you full compass, map, ammo count, marks enemy directions on your compass, your team mates restore at every checkpoint. Next one up removes a couple of those things, and hardcore has nothing, no HUD at all. You don't know your ammo, what way you're going (you do get the map you can reference... + figuring it out by the sun and that), where the enemies are. It can get really tense.

I'm looking forward to finally getting the net and running it online.

I agree that the AI in Uncharted is pretty nuts, I think it's a harder game than its sequel for sure. Crushing gets pretty damn hard when enemies flank you constantly and only pop out from behind cover for a few seconds. Not to mention it only takes about three bullets to kill you. I'm about 70% of the way through it, but I may have gotten myself stuck on this particular bit. As for what I've completed recently, I finished up my second playthrough of Kingdom Hearts last week, and I finally beat Sephiroth to boot. smiley
