Same reason why prizes have yet to be sent out.

Well, you'll be getting the same Nintendo content from E3 regardless of whether he went or not.

Has it actually been said or could it be pronounced 'why'

That's what i've been thinking to. But Nintendo wants up to pronounce it as "WE".
Still Wii = We?

I'm sticking with "NitWit".

Or NW. Sounds a lot like DW, Darkwing Duck from my old cartoon Disney days.

I'm getting used to the name, I don't care much about it.

I can also say hey do you guys want to come over and play the Nintendo, kind of bring it back to the old days. When I had a NES or a Mega Drive, or even a N64. I always said Nintendo or Sega. I hardly ever said the name.
If anyone makes a joke about Wii, i'll laugh it off, and I'll go it's no big deal. It'll be like 5 mins paying out, and then i'll come back with
"Hey you want to play Smash Bros. Revolution." Or whatever it will be called now. That's the tough part now renaming the Smash Bros. game. I can't imagine Nintendo being that stupid to call it "Smash Bros. Wii." Even Super Mario Sunshine 2 has more ring than that.

And VOOK, you can talk about going to LA, and E3 all you want. But i'm one step ahead of you. You see I went to Wrestlemania in Los Angeles last year. And compared to the stuff I hear from E3 every year, it is nothing compared to the electricity and atmosphere that is Wrestlemania. And I will be going again one day.
Fact of that matter, I doubt with all the kids and real magazine and net publishers, you wont really have anytime to do any interviews or play any games. Cause it's a gamer's paradise, and most of the time only important people can get in, or survive for that matter.

So you guys aren't making it to E3 this year huh?
Tough break. Not long now.

What you reckon the RRP is looking to be on this puppy?

Looks quite sexy.. and the low power mode to never have to turn it off is in stark contrast to the 360 and no doubt the ps3..

I reckon 300, maybe 320, similar to the Cube. Anywhere between than and 400 would be awesome at launch. GET ONE PRED!

Wii is a great name. It sucked at the start but i understand now.

i) To a few people Wii "we" sounds like the irish word for small. And the console is only the size of 3 DVD cases.
ii) Wii = WE  its not childish its like abstract, i think other industries will copy the style of using naes not spelt right.
iii) The two i's  in w"ii  , represents people,, it means they want you to play with your friends.

Probably one of the best thought of names.

If you tell someone who's never been on the internet. Google is a big search engine, they will probably laugh at you. Google sounds just as dumb as Wii, but it works. When you stare at the computer screen ur googling. Not many people think of it like that.

a few ways to avoid the Wii embarassment.

Instead of:

I'm going to play on my Wii.

try:

I'm going to play on the Wii.
or
I'm going to play on the NWii.

Call it the Wii, or NWii. That's way it doesn't sound like tolied humour.

I'm playing my wii  right now.
I'm playing the Wii right now.

I'm just going to have a bash on my wii, wanna join?
I'm just going to have a bash on the Nwii, wanna join?

See the difference.
"The" is better then "a".

But if you're really stuck, here's a phrase I created.

Kid: The X360 is going tp pee all over your precious Wii.
Me: Well last time I checked my wii was scoring chicks. What has your done lately?
Oh that's right you don't have one. It's cool man. Wii Understand. But what you should be really worried about is the PS3.
Kid: And why is that?
Me: Cause the PS3 is going to do a 360 on your box before you even know what's inside.
Now if you don't mind. Wii are finished. And Wii are out of here.

You know what! The fact that it draws so much attention makes it a good name.
The fact that people hate it and like it and don;t understand it, makes people more interested.
Great stratery

I can't say no more.

Girl: What u doing?

Guy: im playing with my wii

Girl:Oh my its tinyl

Guy: Its not the size that matters its how you use it, come and play with my wii

Girl: so what do i have to do

Guy: hold it and move it up and down

The idea of using a crappy name to get attention is a great idea...

...but you're still left with the name when all is said and done.

Na your all thinking about it on a small scale. Now all these companies make some dumb chioices but they do spend money on choosing the right name believe it or not.

Wii sounds dumb,,,along with Google (geeky),,,,,, Yahoo (Gay),,,,,. But after its known it will stand out like bird s$%t  on ablack car.

Anyone who is a business person will know the name is a good chioice. The best thingis theres no Abreviation needed, so no ones is saying N64 or SNES, or PS3 or X360. Its just Wii.

Look at this: PLAYSTATION,,,, read it again,,,, PLAYstation. When i first heard of it it sounded like a 3yr old toy play kit. Its only because we know what its about we respect the name now. But if the Ps1 Ps2 never existed it would look like a childish name.

You can't really compare Wii to google though. Google is an entirely new word. Both in spelling and pronounciation. Wii is new spelling, but it's still pronounced "we". If anything, it's going to be confusing to the general consumer. "Is it pronounced Why like it's spelt or we?" When I first saw the name I thought "Why". A lot of people also thought the same thing. I imagine it will be the same for a lot of other people.

Is it a good name? Nobody will know for sure until the Wii is released.

Google is just a play on words. Googol = The letter 1 followed by 100 zeros. The play on words is referring to the search results of Google.

It is not an entirely new word, nor an entirely new pronunciation.

Google is not a new word, google has been in the dictionary for hundreds of years. Wii. It dosn't matter if people mistake the name it wont stop them from buying it.

Wii is nota new word its an old world spelt differently. If i was a rapper called "Murda Dawg" Im not inventing words im just using them as slang.

i thought Wii ment Why, then i read its pronouced We. It dosnt matter as long as it dosnt sound like a Video game console it will not feel childish to non gamers.

Any name that makes this much fuss is a great name.

Its all about attention seeking not trying to look cool,, that comes after

A new word is sprinklexable. Google is a play on words. Same as Wii.

Sure, you can be pedantic and say that it's spelt different, but the fact is that it's BASED on another word. That's why it's clever. Unlike sprinklexable.

Sprinklexable is just an extension of sprinkle.

No it hasn't.

Google may be based on an existing word but it doesn't make it any less new. It is spelt differently, and it also has an entirely different meaning. Is agroterrorism not a new new because it's based on agro and terrorism?  A lot of words that are "new" are based on existing words. There's a difference between a "new word" and a "made up word".

Based on Hydro.

I'm just being a smart arse now Tongue

If you actually have a look at some words that are added to the new dictionary editions you'll see that they are based on existing words. They are still classified as new.

No google is not spelt differently to google is to stare. Thats what people do when their on the net they google at the screen all day. Great name but it sounds really geeky when you think about it. Their billionairs now.

The future is about making life more simple not making things more complex. Look at the design of the box its just a small box. The controllers is just like a remote. Simple.

Wii is simple,,, no need for NWII or PS4, 5 ,6 ,7 8.

Its strange because when the Nintendo showed the controlelr majority of people hated it, they said it was dumb and they rather play games with a controll pad. Alot of peoples views have changed now.

Its not about being typical, or giving you something your use to its about setting trends.

Thats why straight guys are walking around in pink tshirts. Its about progress not staying in the past. Wii is a trend setter, its kind of boring seeing PS1, Ps2,Ps3, Ps4,Ps5, Ps6. Its good because people know what it is but its no longer an impressing name.

No one liked the sound of XBox when it came out, but its a common name now, no one complains any more.

WRIGHT,, ur dad dosn't need to know what Wii or Xbox is to run a good business, but he needs to be open minded. Im not that old but i know what i know!

I agree with you. Wii is a simple name. It's not conventional. It's a whacky name like iPod, Google etc. Naturally people will not understand it. Will that stop them from buying the product? Especially given that Nintendo have basically detached their company name from the product? (It's simply known as "Wii") I don't know.

Are you sure you don't mean 'to ogle'?

From Google.com: "Named for the mathematical term "googol," Google operates web sites at many international domains, with the most trafficked being www.google.com"

From Wiki: "The name "Google" originated from a misspelling of "googol," [3] which refers to 10100 (a 1 followed by one-hundred zeros)."

We can argue whether "Google" is a "new" word all day. I guess it comes down to what you consider new. Just because it "originated" from an existing word doesn't make it any less new in my books.
