As I just mentioned on MSN to Nick, I can't help but notice that all the games Shiggy has recently been involved in or created are sort of compilations or... cap offs.

MarioKart DS: Compilation of all previous games, all the elements from them and said to be the best in the series.
New Super Mario Brothers: Once again a sort of compilation of elements from 2D and 3D iterations, reverting back to a sort of SMB3 play style but with controls more similar to 64 and items from all of them + some extra.
Zelda TP: What everyone inside Nintendo is calling the most beautiful game they've ever made, and by far the best Zelda ever. Seems to borrow a lot from OoT but has elements from nearly every significant Zelda game from the past; such as the twilight, transformation aspects and all of that.
Mario Galaxy: Nick mentioned this... and yes it is probably less so than the others but he's still right; along with the new elements to fit on the Wii, it has aspects from 64 and Sunshine, not to mention the running around on all sides of planets was done in Yoshi's island. There's some other stuff I just can't think of at the moment.

But does anyone else seem to notice a repitition here? It's not often that compilations of a developer/designers work come out all so close together and that these would have so much work put into them that they are the definitive piece of the series? It might just be I'm looking into it too hard or Nintendo are pushing their work to the extreme, but it still seems as if these are being capped off somewhat.

Don't forget Shiggy's remarks that it will be the last Zelda as we know it.

But as in, could Shiggy be stepping down after leaving his franchises on a high note? I can't help but think a Pikmin Wii is in the works, what with the controller enabling ease of selecting the little buggers.

Pikmin DS too? Having a stylus would make it even easier to pick up those damn flowers.

Shiggy said it would be the last Zelda?

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

Zelda is one of the reasons why I came back to Nintendo and haven't left them.
With Zelda gone, what franchise would I look up to now.

Let's hope he'll still let Link stick around in the infinite Smash Bros. series

Then again people say a lot of things you'd be amazed how many go back on their word.
I know I would.

Maybe he is just getting old, and believes he has done his best work? To continue may just let fans of these series down maybe he feels?

Possibly Shiggy's last Zelda. Not THE last Zelda.

I guess if they were to continue the series after Shiggy left, they'd want to take it in a new direction.

Zelda, Mario and MP franchises will never die. They are Nintendo trademarks and is again what keeps nintendo going and well known.

I guess they've started that new direction with TP huh? Maybe we will come to see darker Zelda's in ninty's years to come.

I don't think so. It's just OoT GC.

We're talking...I dunno...Zelda MMORPG, here.

Shiggs has no reason to just bugger off after these coming titles. Seriously, when the Wii is here, he's GOT to use what's on hand to create some awesome new IPs... Just like Pikmin on the 'Cube. Afterall, he'd be setting an example for 3rd and 2nd party developers. Its undeniable that his retirement is going to happen some day, but really, he isn't THAT tired.. Surely?

Well, we already have Disaster: Day of Crisis and Project H.A.M.M.E.R. on the way in terms of new IPs. I don't know how much influence Shiggy had on them, though.

If they're actually Nintendo Of Japan IPs.. Which I somewhat doubt. No, I believe those IPs are being developed in and for western societies. But this is just my assumption. And I'm sure Nintendo Of Japan and Miyamoto will indefinitely create new IPs on the Wii themselves to appeal more to Japan audiences - something that Miyamoto can do and do well (in addition to Western audiences).

Just received confirmation that Disaster Day of Crisis is being developed my Monolith Soft, and Project H.A.M.M.E.R. is by NST - also US.

Exactly. Miyamoto mostly works for Japanese-created IPs..

I'm sure they'll get him in or he'll get himself in to create some new Japanese Wii IPs.

The dude is getting old, so perhaps he will take more of a consultants role in the future.

As for the points above, I think it is more to do with making the best games possible to give Nintendo and the Wii a real fighting chance this generation, rather than making them great to leave the franchises on a high note. I think he is doing a dark Zelda because there is demand for it and it will give the Wii a chance. New Super Mario Bros is marketed in a way to win back over retro fans. Multiplayer Metroid because the masses like multiplayer FPS. Mario Kart DS is the best Mario Kart yet, all they did was make an awesome game, no need to read any more into it. Mario Galaxy is bringing the new concept of the Wii-mote to a franshise we know, so that we can actually see how it will change gaming, and Wii Sports, again, is another attempt at mainstream success, using the simplicity and userfriendly-ness of the popular Eye-toy.

Nintendo want mainstream success again, and they are making a lot of the right moves to get it.

Butter scraped over too much bread.

Miyaomoto is a God in this industry, but even Gods fade with time.

That said, there is still a lot of talent left at Nintendo.

Believe it or not, but Miyamoto doesn't run Nintendo, nor is he soley responsible for the plehora of goodness they unleash upon we, the ravening masses.
