Apple's 'Gaming comeback'... yawn

How many times over the last few years have we heard this??
One or two 'big name' titles come out, nobody really buys them, and then a few months later, they're back in the same situation. Just thought it was funny to read "Apples big gaming comeback" yet again..
Only way I reckon they can do it is to get a huge title(s) developed specifically for it.. that is only available on Mac (such as Halo1 on the original Xbox). Just porting existing titles isn't going to work.

If the release dates for the games are the same on the Mac as they are on PC and consoles then obviously there isn't going to be a big gaming revolution as, like you said, they're just ported.
However, it might still benefit Apple to make this move. I.e. people who currently decide to buy a PC over a Mac because the PC can be used for gaming (whereas the Mac, in its current state, is lame) may change their mind. This could lead to the purchase of more Mac computers... of course the difference will still probably only be slight.

The thing is, Pred, while the announcement was pointing out some ports that will be coming in the near future, the real message behind it was that the Mac would be getting same day releases of PC titles in the future. That's the more important bit.
Sure, it was awkward watching the WWDC keynote where the EA CEO said this...the crowd was like 'sure, whatever... let me see leopard'. Still, if everyone follows EA and starts launching stuff on the Mac day and date as the PC releases, I don't see how it could possibly be a bad thing.

It could be if they end up delaying the PC games to get it going on Mac

bootcamp is for dual booting into windows is it not? parallels is for emulation
they should take a look at getting wine working under osx, and getting it compatible with all directx 10 games

Yep, boot camp seems about booting into windows. However, there was a paragraph on the apple website mentioning emulation of sorts, where you could just go up to the apple menu and select 'switch to windows' or whatever, and it would sleep mac os x and wake up windows. Similarly, an option in the start menu of windows would be added that would hibernate windows and wake apple - without rebooting, that is.
When a guy at WWDC asked about this to an apple employee, he called over the manager, and the manager got really freaked and within an hour the text on the website had been gone...so...don't know what that means.

If you want them to play new games you have to pay a fair amount. The only reason I bought a new PC or still have one is that they are better and cheaper at running games.

this might help me in my decision with getting a "Mac or not" next year.

We’re excited to deliver key EA franchises such as Harry Potter, Madden Football and Need for Speed to Mac gamers.
However titles like this, I don't care about too much. If it's EA i'm hoping we also get Simcity and The Sims too. Maybe then I would care. I believe EA owns Maxis, and it always says EA games(whenever I start one).
PC have a boring look these days. Very original, and black. Whereas a Mac looks like something new and different. And the white makes it look cooler in my view.

PCs don't have to be boring, there are thousands of cases and then if you really wanted to hundreds of mods you can get/do yourself. Mine's a big black beast with some blue LED things on it for good measure, but that's purely functional. My old one was a sort of aqua doodad with silver bits.

Purely aesthetic?
