Got this Friday.. have been playing it for quite a few hours so far. It's sucked me in pretty well into the storyline.

Pretty impressed, and maybe better than I expected - I was prepared to be disappointed actually. Brings across the feel of the earlier series (Fallout 1 and 2), and the 3D works pretty well. The depth of the world is massive, only been to a small part of it is so far (Megatron and Springfield).

Switching to 3rd person view is a little dodgy, but feels too strange to play it in that mode anyhow.

I notice the drug names changed in the game, but not sure what else has been taken out, can't say I notice it too much. Still plenty of swearing, talking to hookers, and violent blowing off of heads to be had.. still hardly a "PG" rated game.

They also removed the animation of you taking the drugs. I think that was all. I have probably played  15 hours now. I had a flame sword but that got crap and I am now looking for a crutch to make a new gun. I had like 3 but sold them cause I am stupid. You get pretty strong I killed about 8 or so super mutants in a group just with the power glove and lost only about one quarter of my health.

There is just so much to do but it takes a long time to do it. I don't really mind oblivion and morrowind were the same and I really liked them.

I'll be getting this for PC eventually. I have a new rule where I only buy myself one new game a month, and this month it's Left 4 Dead.

I'm still waiting to find an operational vehicle. I've seen a helicopter land in one of the trailers..

Yep, ridiculous month! can't they get together and organise themselves a little better to stagger the releases instead of all rushing to fill the pre-xmas season?

All you get now is people holding off buying a game because they just spent a couple of hundred $ on other games, which will take them weeks to finish anyhow. I will probably pick up GOW2, but that has to be it for a while, even though there are probably 5 games I could pick up..

I haven't been able to find much info on the game play of Fallout 3, I know its an RPG - but:

Is it 3rd person / top down? Not First person.
It's set in post apocolyps isn't it?
Do you level up from experience? Upgrade talents/ skills etc?

I know they are basic questions, but I really couldn't find an indepth description of the game play.

It is first person. You can change to third but it is pretty poor.
Yes.
Experience, which you get from kills, disarming traps, hacking, finding new places and other things.
You do upgrade stats and you get 1 perk per level.

I've put together some words on my first impressions after sitting down for about 10 hours so far, for those considering the game who haven't already got it. I've read a few reviews, and frankly, think they are a little poor and rushed - I am suspicious that many didn't even finish the game before the review.

I agree but that is not surprising considering the length. Still last time I checked it is averaging about 93 on metacritic so it is not being treated that badly. I think the Ars Technica one said they put 50 hours in before reviewing it.

Why is this in the mirosoft forums? Anyway I finished so

*Spoilers*

This game was ridiculously awesome. The ending was probably the weakest part, the last fight was too easy. The huge robot was cool but I pretty much let him and my super mutant companion do all the work think I killed 2 people in the last mission. It was quite a bit smaller than oblivion but I still haven't seen it all. Less missions but the places you go seem to have more variety.

Other complaints
Stupid thing doesn't let you keep playing after the the last fight. Have to go back to old save.
Only 7 custom weapons in the game. I thought I had just missed heaps but I checked and their are only 7.

good game but does anybody else think the fighting/shooting is a bit repetitive and i seem to get lost easily...........

and the big blip is your quest but what do the small triangles mean on the compass.......(I picked this up second hand with no instruction book)

I finished back at the start of December smiley From memory, those are your monsters - are they red triangles?  It's definitely repetitive after a while, and battles pretty easy after grinding up the first part of the game..

I notice the expansion pack is now available to download -- looks interesting, but not quite sure I am ready to venture back into it right at the moment.  Still a lot of side-quests I could finish as well.

The small green ones are either map markers or allies I can't remember which.  Getting lost is part of the game. As far as the combat getting repetitive I only really noticed it with giant scorpions way too many of those. I have done heaps and would love to get the expansion now but I am only here for a week so I will wait.

The little triangles are quest markers, I think. Rectangles indicate friendly people or enemies, depending on the colour.

The big ones are for the quests I think the small ones just point to stuff on the map. Maybe.

Not even close to that if you just finish the main quest it is probably sub 30.
