I moved into a new house a few months and decided to bundle my home phone with my ADSL - the best deal I could find was with Netspace.

After 1 month of rediculous screwups between them and Telstra I finally got my adsl connected.

Now, the plan I'm on is 512/128, for those not versed in net speed lingo, that is 512kbps download speed and 128 kbps upload speed. Which translates to about 64KB a sec average download speed.

Now, I was playing a FPS online with a mate when I noticed my ping went through the roof, infact it went up by a factor of 15. After checking my connection etc I decided to check my usage, sure enough I was over my 5gb limit. It then dawned on me I would be capped back to dialup speed, however, I've used dial up on this exact game before and it ran a hell of alot better then this.

So I logged onto Ozspeedtest.com which allows you to test your current adsl speed. After a 30sec test it determined I was pushing 2KB per sec, again for those who don't udnerstand the math a dial up speed cap is around 56.6kbps, though most providers (including mine) only cap you back to 64kbps, which equates to around 8KB a sec. After 5 speed tests I was getting 2KB......

So after an hour of being on hold I got through to a man I can only refer to as the poster child against inbreeding, who continued to make me check my hardware (which I had already done) and after 30min of checking everything determined my modem was too far away from the wall socket, which was causing my low speeds...............

So, I'm now stuck on 2KB for the next 10 days thanks to yet another ISP who doesn't deliver on any of it's contractual obligations. yay!

Sign up with TPG (if you can). I'm hearing too many reports of dodgy ISPs lately...

I recommend TPG or Internode.

Great ISPs (each one has their strengths and weaknesses)

Exetel are mostly good. I've used them almost exclusively for years and they've always been the one I go back to. Their ADSL1 plans are among the best out there.

Good ideas save:

A) I'm in a contract sad
B) I'm in a rural town, I don't have the ISP selection of you guys in Syd / Adel.

I'm going to call them tomoz and speak to a superviser - if he can't give me a decent reason as to why this has happened I'll ask to have my contract terminated.

South-West Victoria, about 200km from the SA boarder, and 350km from Melbourne.
