Metroid: Other M

How are people finding it?
I'm a few hours in now, I would guess. Somewhere in the biosphere of sector 1.
Things I like:
- The pretty cool, cinematic combat with all its neat little finishing moves and that.
- The design is pretty rad. The biosphere looks cool - all the illusions you enable and disable are pretty rad.
- It runs at a pretty good pace, samus is fast and that's alright with me.
- The bathroom scenes (no, they're not dirty), where it's like a behind the shoulder view as you walk around. This is actually my favourite camera angle in the game. Makes me think of a dead space style metroid.,
- It's pretty linear but designed in a sort of tricky way so it doesn't seem as much
Things I don't like:
- It's still linear
- It's not as well designed as Prime 3
- It's easier to put down than Prime 3
- I don't think it's as good as Prime 3
- I want more scenes with first person stuff. Like a couple of cut scenes have it, and it makes me wanna play Prime 3.

It's so wrong, and so right.
The really actiony takedowns just feel out of place to me. I like the speed she runs at, and the way the upgrades seem to be progressing. It is very linear which isn't that great. It's like they've just thrown in the cursory "you can't get here yet" door every now and then without making a fully fleshed out world. Controls are okay but a bit complex. I takes time to full get when you point and charge or point and missile. Wall jumping is terrible. Climbing up that elevator shaft just screamed "WRONG WRONG WRONG". It's okay just bouncing between walls but when you need to jump one level up or down on the side you're on it's damn near impossible. The environments are unimaginative. The hologram thing is interesting but kind of unnecessary. It means that when you do get that first feeling of being "outside" it's all just fake, which makes it less cool.
But I'm really digging the story and cutscenes. In fact, I think this is one of those rare occasions where I'm not playing for the gameplay, but the story, which is really unusual for me. Like the LOST game.
