Announced almost apologetically by Shigeru Miyamoto in the closed room conferences during Nintendo's disappointing E3 2008 showing, Pikmin 3 has been conspicuously absent, and now we know why. Miyamoto has confirmed the game was upgraded to a Wii U title, and is very far along. That would make sense, since it was announced three years ago.
The original Pikmin was a launch window title for the Gamecube, so it seems entirely possible - indeed, likely - that we've just discovered one of the Wii U's launch titles when it arrives in stores in 2012. The real-time strategy genre and adorable garden graphics should be a great showpiece for the system's new controller and HD muscle.
