Yeah I will be in a blogging and photo frenzy. I set up
www.nickschaedel.com and everything the other day if you wanted to follow.
Massive guesstimation: roughly $5k for travel and accommodation excluding long-haul flights between Australia, Europe, Canada and Japan. That includes the little country hop planes through about 12 European stops, trains, a road trip car rental from the top of scotland down to cardiff etc. I cashed in some Qantas miles for the into and out of Australia flights, but Europe to Canada and Canada to Japan came to about $2200. So the bones were about $7500 I'd guess. Obviously doesn't include spending money, phone credit (I used onesimcard as it seemed like the best value travel sim) and all the stuff you buy for going away - shoes, clothes etc. - though these will be useful at home too.
A bit hard to judge how much things will cost when we're there day to day but I'd imagine it will all come to about $10-12K all told. Pretty good for three months and 15 countries, I'd say.
