Sony Reach New Milestone - PS2
The dedicated workforce at Sony DADC, the disc replication, printing and packaging facility in Salzburg, Austria has been working around the clock to meet the huge demand for PlayStation 2 games this Christmas. October saw a record 20 million PlayStation 2 discs produced at Sony DADC, but November looks set to break that record with 25 million discs expected to reach store shelves across Europe and into gamers' homes in time for the holiday season.
PlayStation 2 software discs for the European market have been produced at Sony DADC since the launch of the console in Europe in November 2000. On average, each PlayStation 2 owner has nearly 6 games, a figure that is expected to continue rising as the line-up of software scheduled for release over the next few months looks more exciting than ever. This figure has also been helped in 2003 by the release of many new great software titles for the PlayStation 2, including the hugely innovative EyeToy Play, established favourites like WRC and eight network enabled titles.
The total number of individual game titles produced to date on PlayStation 2 now stands at over 700, with a further 80 expected by the end of the year, indicating that production at Sony DADC will need to continue at its current rate to keep up with demand. Meticulous planning over the past few months has also ensured that there will be enough games in the shops to meet the expected phenomenal demand for Christmas.
