20th May 2004, 11:10am
Sony has announced that its Playstation and PSone hardware has achieved a cumulative worldwide shipmentss of more than 100 million units as of May 18th. It has achieved this milestone some 9 and half years since it first launched.
The Playstation lineup includes over 7300 titles with 949 million units of software sold around the world, equates to about 9 and a half units per console.
In total Sony have shipped more that 170 million units of hardware with Playstation and PS2 combined and a staggering 1.5 billion software units shipped.
One can say Whoa! That surely is a lot of units, however I just have to wonder how they determine this number. Is it numbers shipped from the factory to retailers or the number bought by consumers. Discuss this article and what you think, in our forum.
