Nintendo Heads To The Movies
29th November 2004, 4:03pm
Nintendo will actually be entering the movie business! I don't mean in lending out franchises (eg. Pokemon), but actually producing them itself. Internally, work has begun on planning and production of animated movies. The first movie is expected to hit theatres in 2006.Hopefully, things will change in the games-to-film world. After all, movies like Super Mario Brothers have just been abysmal, and as beautiful as the Final Fantasy animation was, the plot wasn't up to scratch. To a lesser extent, even the Resident Evil movies haven't really garnered a wide audience.
A step in the right direction would be in collaboration with the gaming side of the company. Work could begin on a simulataneous release of a film and a game. No shoddy cash-ins. Quality games for a quality movie. Another interesting prospect is with the Nintendo DS. I can see a future in technology like this.
We can only hope for the best.
