Metroid Prime Nameplate - Gamecube

21st March 2005, 7:42pm
I came so close to deleting my special 'You Have Won' email from Nintendo. It was in my trash folder as spam, and I had selected it to be deleted. Lucky I read the topic in the forums at the same time as reading my email. Today, I arrived home to find a bubble-wrapped package awaiting me. Guess what was inside?.

My very own Metroid Prime nameplate! The nameplate is the bit on the Gamecube that says NINTENDO GAMECUBE in cool lettering. As to why it's a Metroid Prime nameplate and not a Metroid Prime 2: Echoes nameplate, I'm not sure - the leftovers from some other, American competition, perhaps.

Anyhow, the packaged contained a plain letter congratulating me on being selected as one of the 'lucky winners of our competition', an installation guide, a Nintendo DS pamplet and the nameplate itself. The pamphlet is the same one you see on the counters in stores. I eagerly undid the smaller, bubble-wrapped bundle to discover my pristine nameplate.

I was very careful when getting my Gamecube ready for the transfer, as I'd seen and heard of people who'd cracked their lenses, split the disc or just generally destroyed their system when installing parts. I even unplugged it from the power. Following the handy step by step diagram, I discovered the two clips on the underside of the lid that released the original plate. For those of you who missed out, you can still try this at home - you just won't have anything else to put in it. I pulled the clips together, and heard the click as the nameplate popped up. But then, disaster struck.

The nameplate wouldn't lift off. I tried pushing it in and it wouldn't go back. Eventually I realised that one of the catches had popped out again, so after fiddling around underneath, I finally got enough gap between the plate and lid to lever it out. Phew! Next step was replacing it with the awesome Metroid one. I simply slid it into the groove, but had to press surprisingly hard to get it to click in place. Ta-daa! One new nameplate.

You can view the pics on the right to see what to look forward to/you missed out on. Sorry for the blurry one - my digital camera was being argumentative. You can also chat in the forums with the rest of us lucky people about the official Nintendo competition. Oh, and for those of you who are wondering what my entry was, it was to have the super power of healing. Soppy, but it worked, didn't it?
