E3 2005: Revolution Hardware Up Close - Wii

20th May 2005, 11:15pm
We've found out some details on the Revolution hardware. I don't mean the specs, but the actual box itself. Basically, they've taken everything sucky from the Gamecube design and done the opposite.

For starters, the purple look just wasn't cool. Or the handle. So, bye bye Barney's purse, hello sleek black machine. With awesome blue light spilling out from the loading slot. Which, incidentally, can take both the Gamecube discs and the Revolution's media. Apparently it's the first intelligent system to be able to do so. No matter where you push in the little disc, it can handle it.

On the top/right (depending on your orientation) is a flap with Gamecube ports (told you) and memory card slots. At the front is another flap underneath the drive that houses the 512MB memory for downloads and saves.

Controllers will be wireless, and I expect that when the connect to the system, there'll be a light on the front that will illuminate. The front also houses the standard on/off, reset and eject buttons. All in all, with it's shiny surface and sexy blue light, it's one hell of a jump up from the Gamecube.
