E3 2005: Super Mario Strikers Details - Gamecube
21st May 2005, 12:00am
Welcome to the wonderful world of Mario Olympics. We've had karts, golf, tennis, partying, dancing, basketball (well, Street V3, baseball and more - now it's time for some soccer action.By the way - clever move on Nintendo's behalf by eliminating the actual name of the game from the title and replacing it with strikers - it'd be a hassle to have Super Mario Football in some regions and Super Mario Soccer in others. But I digress.
It's just like every other Mario sports title, which isn't really a bad thing. You play in unique arenas with colourful characters from the Mushroom Kingdom. Each character plays differently from each other, and has a different weight and unique characteristics. They also have a power shot a la Mario Power Tennis, and by holding B you can charge up a super kick at the expense of movement. If you get it in the goals, though, you're treated to fireworks and a unique dance by the character.
Although it has all the traits of the other games in the franchises, they've all been solid titles, and most importantly, fun to play. We can't wait to hear more about the game.
