The DS has sold 3,015,894 units in Japan since its launch. Last year, the DS sold almost one and a half million units in its first five weeks. It regularly outsells all other consoles in the territory - last week, it sold twice the amount of PS2s (DS - 57,313, PS2 - 27, 161). The PSP sold 20,322 units.

The PSP has now sold 1,652,728 units in Japan since launch; the DS has thus outsold the system by 1,363,166 units. With initial sales of the PSP in Australia appearing strong, it looks like there'll be much stronger competition in this region than the land of the rising sun.
