According to Nintendo, sales of their DS platform have reached ten million units worldwide, which, with the constant performance of the GBA, made a strong fourth quarter for the company.

"At a time when some sectors of the video game industry are softening, Nintendo DS and the Game Boy Advance line remain shining stars because of their fun experiences and innovative game play," says Nintendo VP Reggie Fils-Aime. "It's important to note that these strong figures represent Nintendo hand-held units and games that consumers have purchased and are now enjoying at home or wherever they like to play."

The ten million is broken down into 5+ million in the US, 4+ million in Japan, and the rest in places that include Europe and Australia. Sales for Mario Kart DS are past the 1 million mark. Some of the success has to be attributed to the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection, which has seen over 550,000 users worldwide in the seven weeks since launch. That's 5.5% of DS owners.
