Industry data released by DFC Intelligence - a videogame analyst company - has suggested that Nintendo's attempts to attract non-gamers and "lapsed gamers" (those that used to play, but have stopped), may just be working.

Nintendo's market value has jumped by 15% in the last seven months - larger than both Sony and Microsoft. Overall, the industry saw an increase of 7%. This success, on both fronts, can be somewhat attributed to the broad, cross-demographic appeal of the DS system.

Interestingly, DFC also labelled the PSP's marketing as the biggest disappointment for the reporting period, and instead notes that the displays of Nintendo's system are "more prominent, better looking, and have more games to feature." Typically, Sony's always done the most marketing, with Nintendo being noteworthy for its lack of advertising, so this last comment is intriguing.
