Nintendo's profits for its fiscal third quarter jumped up sharply, reinforcing its estimated takings for the year. Analysts have suggested that Nintendo may increase its expectations based on these figures. You can almost understand why they're releasing the DS Lite; they're not exactly going broke and thus there is huge security for the endeavour.

The consolidated net profit for October-December rose to 55.56 billion yen (AUD$634 million) as compared to 21.3 billion (AUD$243 million) for the same period last year. In the first three quarters, Nintendo posted a net profit of 92.2 billion yen (AUD$1.052 billion), up from 67.8 billion yen (AUD$773 million) in the year before (a 36% increase).

Its earlier estimate for the year was a profit of 75 billion yen (AUD$855 million) based on 500 billion yen (AUD$5.7 billion) in sales. Takashi Oya, a Tokyo-based game analyst with Deutsche Securities, said that he had "no doubt" that Nintendo would revise its margins.
