The designers of the DS Lite have revealed some of the choices they had to make when creating the revamped system. Yoneyama Kazuo and Sakiyama Tomoyuki have recently talked with Nintendo of Japan's official online magazine about what needed to be worked on in the redesign. Tomoyuki is relatively new to the company, but Kazuo's career began with the DK arcade cabinet.

According to them, the top screen was the hardest to get right. They tested many LCD screens in order to find one that was both strong, compact and bright. The battery of the DS Lite might look the same, but in fact it's got about 20% more juice in it to keep those eye-bleedingly bright screens running. To conserve power, the four stages of brightness were implemented, so you didn't have to waste battery when you didn't need all the light.

The choice to use a fatter, longer stylus reflects the way it fits in sideways, and also the older market that have become so attached to games like Brain Training.
