Weekly Famitsu and Gamasutra's have reported on the Japanese gaming industry's fiscal-year-end report for 2005 (which actually finished in March 2006). The Nintendo DS topped the charts, selling 4.32 million hardware units in the region alone.

Additionally, Nintendo DS titles claimed four of the top five software titles too. Animal Crossing: Wild World took first place (2.34 million copies sold since November 05), while Final Fantasy XII for the PlayStation 2 took second position with 2.05 million copies. The rest of the top five were the two Brain Training titles (soon to be hitting our shelves) at 1.85 million and 1.7 million for the first and its sequel, respectively. Mario Kart DS was fifth, with 1.21 million games sitting on Japanese shelves.
