Three Japanese analysts have voiced their takes on the Wii following the wave of news at E3. The latest Famitsu magazine housed the comments of Daiwa Securities' Eiji Maeda, Nomura Securities' Yuta Sakurai, and Deutsche Securities' Takashi Oya.

When asked which hardware manufacturer had the largest impact at E3 2006, all of them said Nintendo, and used the rise in their stock price (from 16,000 to 19,000 yen in just three weeks) as proof. The 27 playable games on the show floor, as well as the suggestion of a strong launch line-up was also a key factor.

Sony's PS3 price also influenced their comments, with Maeda pointing out that the 62,790 yen price for the 'PS3tard' (i.e. base system) was a significant purchase, and all three questioned the uptake of Blu-ray, especially with competition from HD-DVD. Sakurai did suggest that the PS3 could become popular once the price drops to a more affordable level.

All three of them said the PS3 was likely to come out on top at the end of the next generation, saying the Playstation brand was huge. However, they did suggest the lead could be significantly cut down, and said that they would be surprised if the PS3 had such dominance over the competition as the PS2 did.

Ooya did raise a final good point, though: 'The hardware concepts this time are clearly different. Because of this, it seems to be a situation where the winner and loser won't be clear.'
