Nintendo labelled the sale of nearly 600,000 DS Lite units in June a 'triumph for innovation' - it was the top-selling system in that period. Of course, New Super Mario Bros. was the game of choice to pair with the new system, selling a further 450,000 units. It seems that across the world, the DS Lite has been a massive success, despite its purely cosmetic improvements over the original system.

'Nintendo DS is the only game system available a year ago that showed growth over the same period,' Nintendo of America's senior vice president of marketing and corporate communications, George Harrison said, 'and it did so in overwhelming fashion, with a leap of 426 percent.'

The strong sales of Tetris DS and Metroid Prime Hunters resulted in over 1.7 unique users on the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection. Also of note is the success of Brain Age and Big Brain Academy, which sold a total of 350,000 units, and the ever reliable Nintendogs sold a combined 100,000 units (10 months after its release).

'What we're seeing is realization of our promise that Nintendo will bring gaming to the masses,' Harrison continued. 'Whatever your taste or level of experience, we've got a system and a game for you.'
