Electronic Arts has announced an expansion to the real time strategy The Lord of the Rings: The Battle For Middle Earth II, entitled The Lord of the Rings: The Battle for Middle Earth II - The Rise of the Witch King (an award goes here for longest game title ever). The Rise of the Witch King improves on many features of the original game, while for the first time allowing you to pilot the dark armies of Mordor. Here are some of the key features of the expansion:

  • Full new content, including the new dark faction
  • Six new single player campaigns
  • Additonal units for all six factions
  • Play as the evil armies of Middle Earth
The game features an updated Create-A-Hero feature, allowing players to customise their army's weapons and armour, and also includes a new Troll class for additional experimentation. War of the Ring is a 'risk-style' meta-game, offering new siege dynamics and unified territories.

The Lord of the Rings: The Battle for Middle Earth II, The Rise of the Witch-King will be released in Summer 2006 here in Australia. For Xbox 360 owners, the original game was released a couple of weeks ago on the 360, and the expansion may also see the 360 in a few months. Visit the official website for further details. Here are a couple of screenshots from the expansion.

Sliced Comments: Looks like a worthwhile expansion for fans of the game, and The Lord of the Rings fans. Piloting the bad guys is always more fun after all!
