Further details on Xploder HDTV output for PS2 - PS2
6th August 2006, 1:12pm

It basically looks like the HDTV Game Player simply allows progressive scan output, to allow twice the amount of lines sent per frame, and therefore the screen can be stretched vertically a bit better than a HDTV's internal up-scaling. Apparently it is really optimal at 480p mode (the standard Playstation 2 res is 480i, or interlaced) - while 720p and 1080i is possible, resolutions above this the aspect ratio may be stretched on games.
While it also allows progressive mode output for playing back DVD's with increased quality, except for bargain-basement players, most stand-alone DVD players include this by default - so this feature may not be so useful.
You can read the full HDTV Game Player FAQ in our forums.
You can find further information on the official product page, which has now been put up.
