First of all, Nintendo of America's Vice President of Marketing and Corporate Affairs, Perrin Kaplan, has revealed that all first party Wii games will be region-free. This means that we can import them if Nintendo Australia doesn't get them out promptly! It also acts as an impetus for the company to get their stuff out worldwide at around the same time, which has to be good.

Kaplan also mentioned to Wired that all Virtual Console titles you download are connected to your username/account, so if your physical system becomes unusable/stolen/explodes or whatever, you can still get the ones you've bought on your new Wii. And, while there doesn't seem to be any official Nintendo hard-drive in the works, she didn't specifically say you couldn't hook one up. Incidentally, NES, SNES and N64 games will cost you 250, 500 and 1000 Wii points respectively.

Plus, IGN has confirmed that the Wii will not feature DVD playback, because it would just add cost to the unit and as most people already have one, Nintendo decided to drop the idea.
