Speaking to GamesIndustry.biz, Sony head honcho Phil Harrison has stated that some of the launch titles for the PS3 are reaching the 25GB limit on the Blu-Ray format. This piece of news comes after criticsm that Sony are pushing Blu-Ray merely for films and 'non-interactive content'.

'It's got nothing to do with movies. DVD is not sufficient capacity to power the kind of data consumption, or to feed the data consumption needs of Cell and RSX - just purely as a gameplay device, we need Blu-Ray to supply the kind of data that PS3 games use.'

He also mentioned that the games reaching the limit weren't wasting it on in-game cinematics and that it was a combination of factors like '7.1 sound, high-res textures' and so on that were contributing to the huge amount of data.

Interestingly, he also added 'Next year we'll raise that (the 25GB limit) to 50GB, and I'd expect that we’ll be getting close to that in the fairly near future as well.'
