...the 23rd of March.

Sony has announced that its upcoming console, the PlayStation 3, will arrive in PAL regions on the 23rd of March, 2007. This dispels the rumours that the launch would be pushed back to April. In the press release, Sony confirmed that the PAL regions would not be getting the 20Gb version, stating that they'd release it sometime later in the year, according to consumer demand. The PlayStation 3 will retail for $999.95 AUD, so here's hoping that you've been saving up.

Sony has 1 million units of the console secured for Europe and Australasia. They've also confirmed that 30 titles will be avaliable for launch, including the next installment in the ever-popular Ridge Racer series, Ridge Racer 7. Downloadable games will also be avaliable, including Gran Turismo HD Concept and Tekken: Dark Resurrection, as well as some more 'light' titles, including Go! Sudoku and Go! Puzzle, so there's bound to be something for everyone.

"Following the hugely successful launches of PS3 in Japan and North America, we are absolutely delighted to be able to bring significant numbers of PS3 to the SCEE territories. To be able to launch with over 30 titles across every genre shows that this is our strongest launch line-up in the history of PlayStation, and is what PlayStation fans in Europe have been crying out for", said David Reeves, President of SCEE.

So there it is folks, official confirmation! See you on the other end of the 23rd of March!
