Y'aarr! A Pirates Life For Me - PC

9th February 2007, 11:00am

Disney Online have today revealed details about their upcoming MMORPG, Pirates of the Caribbean Online. Based on the films of the same name (without the online bit, naturally), players will get the chance to interact with chracters in the film, including Will Turner, Elizabeth Swann, the enigmatic Jack Sparrow and other memorable folk.

Two options will be avaliable when the title launches later this year: "Basic Access", which grants the player access to a free, limited, ad-based version of the game, and "Unlimited Access", which obviously opens up the entire game, with no ads.

Disney Online haven't yet detailed what parts of the game will be restricted with Basic Access, simply saying that "Unlimited Access will unlock features previously limited with Basic Access, allowing players to experience the game’s full range of customization, game play and community interaction". Make of that what you will. Subscriptions for Unlimited Access will cost $9.95US a month.

Players will be able to customise their character with all manner of pirate regalia, build a ship, bring together a crew and set sail on an adventure for treasure. Along the way, players will have to fend off evil forces, both land and water based.

"The tremendous popularity of the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise creates an exciting opportunity for our game. We feel our approach to the business model for Pirates of the Caribbean Online will attract and engage a broad base of players, encompassing both fans of the franchise and MMO gamers," said Paul Yanover, Executive Vice President and Managing Director over at Disney Online.

POTCO is due for release in Spring this year (which'd be Autumn for us). Additional information on the game can be found here. Get yer rum ready!
