Nintendo Announces WiiWare - Wii

Nintendo has announced at a recent developers conference in the United States, the introduction of WiiWare. WiiWare will allow games developers to develop small downloadable games that can be distributed on the Wii Shop Channel. They can be paid for using the standard points system. Pricing will be varied, depending on the title.
"Independent developers armed with small budgets and big ideas will be able to get their original games into the marketplace to see if we can find the next smash hit," says Nintendo of America President Reggie Fils-Aime. "WiiWare brings new levels of creativity and value to the ever-growing population of Wii owners."
They also mention that the titles will be able to make full use of the Wii Nunchuck and Wii Remote. The first titles will be released in the start of 2008.
Sliced Comments: Another nice boost to Wii owners.. although it will be quite a few months before we'll see the first WiiWare titles. While ports of existing 'classic' games are all that's been seen so far, these sort of titles should give Nintendo much the same online offering as Xbox Live and Sony's Online Network. Great possibilities, as long as creative developers can be encouraged to work some WiiWare magic.
