Wii Fit Dated - Wii
11th March 2008, 10:24pm

All you fatties out there better have your local hospital on speed dial come May 5th when Wii Fit arrives in Australia. You better have a fat wallet too, with the entire package retailing for $149.95.
Fat.
Now we can't help but wonder how much Rock Band is going to cost us. $199? $249? The prospect is scary.

agreed.... they're not as crazy as they look (or sound, or act, or make a tv show)

Japanese are going nuts over it.. therefore, that's enough for me to think it must be pretty cool...
The Japanese also have vending machines for used underwear.
I wish there was vending machines for underwear (not used) and socks (also not used) it would be so much easier than lining up whenever I need some.

Possibly, but stores also have other incentives for sales - for instance, they might make a loss on the product but hope to gain from people buying other things while they're in the store.

See that's another reason why I don't think it's worth $150.. I waited until Big W had the $98 sale for the Guitar Hero 3 pack before I bought it. If they can have sales that cheap relatively soon after the release of the product, it shows just how much the stores are making with each sale. They must love their gimmicks.

Maybe so. But Nintendo know it will sell at that price. It's like Guitar Hero. It comes in a big packet so it must be worth it, right?
I personally just don't see the benefit in it having balance sensors. Okay, you can shift your weight in a mini-game, but does that really improve your fitness? You tend to gain improved balance and coordination playing the dance games anyway. While the mats are essentially more simple, they're utilised in a much better way imo. I'm just not yet convinced that this system provides anything more fun and exciting than what's already out there for a smaller price tag.
We're talking about stretches, exercises, pushups and stuff. It's not just standing still and shifting side to side. It's running on the spot, situps - lots of actual exercises.
HOW DARE YOU SAY THE WII FIT TRAILER WASN'T GOOD! IT HAD A HOT REDHEAD IN IT!!
And also, LOL, dance mat. Those things have been around since the days of the NES. The Wii Fit board is a lot more complex, and the tech in it is a lot more sophisticated. That said, I don't see it worth being $100.

I might have a biased view because the trailer I watched a couple months ago made it look pretty lame (they were trying to make it look cool and failing miserably).
Granted, because it's different and because there are no dance mat games for the Wii this thing will likely sell well.

Yeah it's not just buttons, it's crazy pressure doodads, weight thingers, swing blingers, etc etc.
+ It's not only step stuff, there's all sorts of off the hook balance things (I'm a big fan of having good balance), it measures your daily progress of workouts, fitness, balance, etc etc.
It's like having... A PERSONAL TRAINER! Except this personal trainer is really short, fat and blisteringly white.
Considering you can get dance-mat games in a bundle for less than $100 (looking at PS2 (I got one at release for about $80 last year)) and $140 (if looking at DDR for the 360) Wii Fit seems like a rip-off.
Any dance mat game is going to be more fun and a better workout (cardio wise) than a step (I've done step aerobics before so I know the limitations on a step - dancing is more intensive). And any other excercise the Wii Fit would provide you with (i.e. easy pushups) you'd be able to do without the special platform and the $150.
You're underestimating the technology of the system. A dance mat is simply button presses in large plastic form. The Balance Board senses varying degrees of pressure for variable controls. It also knows when you're off balance and stuff.

But the point is that it will do more than those things as other games come out.

Sin and Punishment, maybe?
It would be perfect for the old school game, what's it called. I can't remember.
It's basically just strafing left and right and blowing shit up.
That would be good.
Break-dancing game, where you have to balance on your head on the board would be a goer I'm sure...
Or you could have some sort of game where you have to bounce a ball or something off it, haha, I can imagine the damage to the average house though as a tennis ball flies into the roof and off sideways

You could sit down with your feet on it and just shift weight. They probably have a boxing game in the works for that. There really is a lot you can do with a balance board... and a lot more with a balance board and 2 Wiimotes.
True, but quite interesting all the same. I'll definitely be keeping an eye on what they develop around this.
They said they have eight games in development. Obviously one of those is a 1080 sequel, but I do like the idea of that shooter game with the dodging. Would be a little tiring standing up all the time, though.

Nintendo said they had a buttload of balance board games in development didn't they?
I don't doubt more than half will get canned before they make it past pre-production or whatever, but still, that's not bad I think.
Maybe next gen they'll release the Wii2 with balance board + 2 wiimotes or something.

Boardboredness![]()
It will probably get used for a few other games.. a shooter or something where it can sense you dodging to the side or something could be cool

I don't believe that it is overpriced. Hell, it'll do me more good than most other games. I'm not an excercise person. I am not unfit or fat either... but you know, some meditating or push ups or whatever, the balance board would motivate me.
Maybe for a few weeks but if you need a board to get motivated you will probably get bored pretty quick.

Also, balance. I like having good balance.

They believe suckers will pay this at launch, and they're probably correct![]()

$150 is a bit much to ask I think. I mean, a fully featured game like Zelda or SSBB can retail for $100, but Wii Fit isn't worth $100, assuming the scales are worth $50.
I agree but it is not unexpected.
Posted by insanopointless 12/03/2008 5:40pm
Assuming they're both worth 75, or the scales are 100 and the game is 50?
Who knows?

Probably $249.95 for the full pack, but you'll be able to buy a simple pack consisting of the game + guitar I think. The mic shouldn't be too much to buy seperately either, just the drum kit and guitars that are rather pricey.
I didn't realise phonebooks knew how much you weighed and whether you were standing on them off balance.
The question this raises for me is - how much is fricking Rock Band going to cost!!? :O
Posted by Master Chief 12/03/2008 8:59am
$150 for a phonebook.. damn!
Posted by insanopointless 12/03/2008 2:07am
Yar, I was expecting it to be a bit more actually, though this is right on the money I think.
For me, if they make a 1080 that supports it...
IT WILL BE WORTH IT.

I reckon it's gonna be off the hook.

I wasn't going to get this but my girlfriend wants it for her birthday so I may have too.
