New details have emerged from the Game Informer article on Red Steel, the first flagship title for Nintendo's Revolution console. Wikipedia's Red Steel page has stacks of great info on the game, so click there and read this while it's loading:
  • The AI characters can 'care for themselves', according to project leader Roman Campos Oriola. They'll cover you while you reload, and will assist in taking out opponents. The developers state F.E.A.R. (for the PC) as being the benchmark for AI.
  • Enemies will be aggressive, and will use the environment to their advantage. They'll hide behind objects, and rather than run around a table that stands between them and you, they'll jump up on it.
  • The first third of the game will be, by necessity, ruthless and violent. From then on, you will be rewarded for more precise shots/swipes. If you're being very precise, you can even enter a - for want of a better term - 'bullet time' mode.
  • While it may be tempting to decapitate enemies or take a headshot, this time is better spent knocking their gun out of their hand. Showing mercy, such as stopping your sword swing just before it hits their neck, could make them join your side and fight against their leader.
  • Splitscreen multiplayer deathmatches are confirmed, but we know little else.
Be sure to read the Wikipedia entry for more great insights into the plot and other mechanics of the game. Incidentally, you can see the developers showing off with their Revolution controllers (and get a good feel for the size of them) at Flikr.
