The announcement of Ubisoft's FPS (either first-person shooter or first-person slasher - take your pick) stirred up quite a buzz last week. The team is keeping the love alive, with the new CEO of the Montreal studio calling Nintendo's next-gen system 'magical'.

'I can say definitely, as any other developer, we are looking at this magical platform, and we want to be part of the adventure,' Gamasutra was told by CEO Yannis Mallat. 'You know already that Red Steel is made public in Game Informer. That's an exclusive Ubisoft title, made in Ubisoft Paris. And I'm pretty sure we'll see other Revolution games from Ubisoft. And some of them, I'm sure, will be made from Montreal.'

Mallat said being economical in game development was a focus of Ubisoft's, and referenced Nintendo's motto by claiming that it's not the budget that makes an awesome game, but the gameplay and idea behind it.

'I really think the next-gen war is all about trying to do fewer things better, rather than trying to do everything better. It's still a video game. And what will eventually differentiate them all, is all in the idea. The idea doesn't cost anything.' Apparently we can look forward to Red Steel at E3 2006, as well as a bevy of unannounced Ubisoft titles for next-gen systems.
