It's finally happened. After nearly three years at the same price, Nintendo of Japan and America have announced a price drop. In the former, the Wii will now sell at ¥20,000 (AUD$254), down from ¥25,000. In America, it's hit USD$200 (AUD$230), down from USD$250 (AUD$287). Surely the Australian Wii is due for a cut too, given it's still selling at $399 (USD$348)? That's nearly PSPgo territory. Hell, you can find it in Australian online stores for AUD$340!

We've contacted Nintendo Australia for comment, and will update this article when we've heard back. While we'd love to see AUD$249.95, we have a feeling it's more likely to be AUD$299.95 (USD$260). That's still more than the USA's launch price, but when has Australia ever had reasonable video game prices?

In the UK they actually raised the price of the Wii earlier this year to £199 (AUD$366) as a result of the economic climate. Now it will return to the launch price of £179 (AUD$330), but with one added extra - Wii Sports Resort and MotionPlus will be in the box, alongside the original Wii Sports and the usual controller and nunchuk. Could we see the price stay the same here in Australia, but these extras thrown in? Or even a drop to AUD$349.95 too? We'll have to wait and see.

Must be making a fair bit on each console now.. must only cost them $50 or so for the components for a wii these days.
Did you know the sensor bar is just two LED's being powered by the cord? You can use candles instead []

Candles would actually look cooler.

What? There isn't a huge console market in Japan anymore so it's very likely the Wii costs less in the US.

The Wii is cheaper in the US....compared to Japan? Bad Marvin, that's a bad glorified calculator! *Hits Marvin with a stick*

Yes, I realise varying exchange rates are the blame, shutup.

GAME has the Wii by itself for $336 at the moment and JB have had it at that price before.

I hope they make it $299 for christmas.
