Euro Rock Band Pricing: Bollocks Ahoy - PS3, Xbox 360

9th April 2008, 8:54pm

And you thought we had it bad here. The price scheme for the Euro release of Rock Band was announced: turns out it's gonna cost the folks over there double the price of the US version. In the US, the package was initially released for a price of $169. Europe gets it for a stonking USD$378.

Can't imagine there's much love being directed to EA at the moment.

Update: Harmonix has come forward to defend the ridiculous cost of the Rock Band package in Europe, citing that VAT and the price of consumer electrics over there are to blame.

"These are definitely not excuses so much as contributing reasons," he stated.

"I can't talk to the explicit pricing - how it gets split down between retailers and distributors and the whole chain - because I don't actually know that much about it."

I do believe I smell standard PR guff. And it reeks.

It's a novelty in comparison to the real thing, much like all Wii games that are trying to portray a real life motion

Couldn't you say that using any controller is a novelty, as it is providing an opportunity to do things that you have no real life ability to do - i.e. fire guns with accuracy, play golf?

They have Rock Band set up at an EB near me, so I'm pretty sure the game will come out here eventually.. probably around Christmas if EA want to actually make any sales

the price here would probably be closer to 500ish if they are going by local electronic prices and of course they will markup the "TAX" we always get shafted when it comes to price

Yeah comes with everything you need. Still ridiculous, in any case. Import it, if you want it.

If it did come here the price would be so terrible it probably wouldn't sell anyway.

Does the package only include one instrument?

I think it comes with the mic one guitar and the drums.

Certainly not - add to that that Australia isn't even included in those announcements. Word at the moment is that it won't even come here because of the pricing woes.
