As part of the Sony Strategic Meeting which was held recently, Sony has revealed their new service which will add news functionality to the PS3, allowing users to view daily world news interactively. The system is categorised under the Life with Playstation brand, and will allow users to navigate around a virtual globe which has links to pieces of news from around the world. An add-on for the system will also allow for geo-tagged pictures to be shown on the globe. The news service is a small part of what Sony have planned as far as non-game functionality goes, so we'll be seeing much more in the future. The Meeting focused on services that will be released before March next year, so it's pretty clear that we'll be seeing this within the next eight months.
Sliced Comments: This news service sounds fairly similar to what Nintendo have going with the Wii's news channel, and seems like a reasonably good idea for adding more features to entice PS3 owners to turn on their consoles.

I wonder whether AAP (who do the Wii service) are also doing PS3, or whether a competitor jumped on board.
