PS3 2.40 Firmware on the Way, Goodies Abound - PS3
1st July 2008, 2:04am

Want that in-game XMB? Or some trophies? Well, they're on the way! Boot up your PS3 on Thursday and download the new 2.40 firmware, as it'll bring with it those new features.
Can't wait that long? Check out the video that Sony put up, demonstrating the in-game XMB. If you want to find out what's the deal with the trophies, then check this video out.
The firmware will also allow you to up your friends list to 100, which is great if you're incredibly popular, and not really that important if you're lonely. It'll also add the Google search option (as the PSP recently received) and a "mini-control panel that you can use while playing music", as well as some minor enhancements.

Read that, but most seem to be saying they've updated fine. Seems to be a very isolated problem.
Lucky they had already taken it off the servers as I stole the PS3 from Julz's study area and put it back online. It didn't prompt me for an update.
Not sure if anyone's aware of this problem with the hardware already but I thought that I'd post it just in case.
