We posted news a few days ago that the price of the Premium 360 console was dropping to $299 in the US (that's a $50 cut). Apparently, the Hollywood Reporter is confirming this by proxy from a 'major retailer', who's also saying that'll be cut before E3. Which is pretty soon!

No word from Microsoft, but since when does any company have a word on these sort of things?

If it *Is* going to drop by a decent chunk, I may consider buying up another one.

I sold mine a while ago after my rage about MS not adding a HDMI port on release, and then not offering one to early buyers. But after looking at a PS3, I can't say I see my self using theblu-ray alot, and the networkign is alot worse then I imagined.

Meh, I'll see how it pans out, but a 360 for the cost of a Wii is a pretty tempting deal.

It's all supply and demand.. surely though the demand for the Wii will have to fall eventually, as everybody who wants one, already has one.

Clearly it will, but that hasn't happened yet I wouldn't bet on one for a while.

They haven't dropped the Wii's price because a) it's still incredibly popular and in high demand and b) according to Satoru Iwata, that just shafts the early adopters who paid for it only to find its value depreciating so quickly.

It is only a) he only says b) because it makes Nintendo look like they care about their users.

and c) it's already cheap and Nintendo has been making money from it from day 1

Will be interesting to see the price drop here. A premium for say approx $AU400 here would surely make it an attractive proposition for anybody. A good $250 cheaper than the Playstation 3, and the exact same price of the Wii, which hasn't dropped at all. I don't quite understand that, seeing as the Wii is 4-5 year old technology, compared to that much newer, that can do proper HD, has a 20gb hard drive, has a backlog of good games as long as your arm, etc.

I bought my Wii 12 months ago, and still couldn't pick one up any cheaper, Nintendo is cleaning up there in the profits per console. They don't even really have to sell the games, as long as they're selling the console it seems

True regarding Microsoft never saying anything until it's already in the stores.. That sucks to be honest.
