Mario 128 On Nintendo's Next System?
8th November 2003, 9:40am
George Harrison of Nintendo America has suggested that we may not see Mario 128 on GameCube after all...
During a recent interview with CNN Money, George Harrison stated that Mario 128 could well be released on Nintendo's next console.
Mario 128 was orginally a Tech Demo showing off the GameCube's power at Space World, where 100 Mario's ran around on a Monopoly style board. After the announcement of Pikmin, which let players control up to 100 little creatures, many speculated that the demo was just showing off the same technology used in Pikmin. Miyamoto revealed that Mario 128 was indeed an upcoming title, and that it would be a "true sequel" to Super Mario 64.
Gamers were expecting to see Mario 128 at this years E3 but it was nowhere to be found. Miyamoto later revealed that he didn't want other game companies stealing his innovative ideas seen in Mario 128.
Mario 128 as a Launch title for Nintendo's next console? Anything is possible. From a business point of view it would be a smart move as we all know the selling power of Nintendo's biggest mascot.
