A few more details have arisen about what looks to be Nintendo flagship title for the Revolution launch - Super Smash Bros.. Masahiro Sakurai is directing the game, reprising his role from previous Smash Bros. titles.

The director has revealed that development on the project has only just begun. In May 2005, when he was approached by Nintendo at E3, he was the only person on the team. He was surprised to be asked, since he hadn't even heard it was in development (and also astounded to be asked by Satoru Iwata himself).br> Anyhow, for the juicy goss: Nintendo has got help from an outside development team for the title: "Shigeru Miyamoto introduced me to a 'particular company' that had just finished development of a major game", revealed Sakurai. Apparently, winning over the executives of this company didn't take too much effort when they discussed the project. No names have been dropped, though apparently they claimed to have played lots of Melee, which Sakurai double checked from their memory card.

Interestingly, developed of the game won't have happening at Nintendo Kyoto - rather, in a brand new building in Tokyo. Sakurai helped find the new location, and expects a huge team to come together - more than fifty people - for the title. The new Nintendo office opened its doors at the beginning of October. HAL Labs, by the way, have leant Sakurai all their previously development materials, so they're not starting from scratch. In a deal with Famitsu, he'll be updating a weekly column giving insights into development, too.

So, who do you think this mysterious company is? My bet's on Capcom. If you've got any ideas, email them to me (my address is linked to by my name below).
