In typical Nintendo style, information on the new Tetris DS has been slowly trickling out. Recently we discovered more about the extra modes in the DS re-envisioning of a gaming classic.
  • In the Zelda-themed 'Mission' mode you'll have a limited amount of time to complete certain objectives, which are displayed on the top screen. If you don't complete them, it's game over.
  • In the distinctive Metroid stylings of 'Catch' mode, you earn points by forming 4-by-4 squares of the same colour, instead of lines. Pieces will apparently explode in every direction when you form the block.
  • A new 'Puzzle' mode featuring Yoshi contains nearly 200 individual Tetris brainteasers to solve - presumably with a set cycle of pieces to use.
  • In the multiplayer 'Push' mode, pieces are sent to your opponent's screen when you clear at least two lines simulataneously. Donkey-Kong is your mascot for these games.
  • In 'Balloon Fight Touch' mode, players drag stacks of pieces into place with the touchscreen. There's no gravity, so you have all the time you want to manouevre them around.
Tetris DS is going to rock.
