Gears of War Film in the Works - Movie / DVD
New Line Cinema today announced that it has acquired the rights to bring Xbox 360 shooter Gears of War to the not-really-silver-anymore screen, with a tentative 2009 release.
Before the alarm bells start ringing, it has also been confirmed that Epic's Cliff Bleszinski will be onhand during the production (as executive producer, no less) to keep the film on track and faithful to the game.
Stuart Beattie, writer on the Pirates of the Caribbean series, has been confirmed as the writer for the film. Apart from that, there are no other solid details, aside from a statement from Epic co-founder, Mark Rein:
"We wanted to make an entertainment property that's not just for games but for other media," he said. "Our first and foremost philosophy is to do no harm, so we debated heavily the idea of doing a movie at all, but we feel we stacked the deck in our favour by working with the best players."
Let's hope a certain infamous game to movie director doesn't land the job as director for this one...
