8 Introduction
In an alternate past, the year is 1951 but World War II has not occurred. Despite this, the human race has something much worse to face. A highly intelligent alien race called the Chimera invades the planet, starting in Russia and spreading across the world, wreaking havoc and infecting the population as they go. Originally it was thought that the attacks were a Russian biological weapon but quickly the world realizes otherwise. The Chimera infects humans with a virus and abducts them, taking them to facilities that change them from humans into Chimera. So, not only is the Human race at risk of being wiped out but the Chimera is growing in numbers as it moves.
The United Kingdom is one of the last remaining areas in the world and the British and US Armies are fighting to save it. You play the role of U.S. Army Ranger Sgt. Nathan Hale, who in his fight with the Chimera, gets infected with the virus. He seems to be the only person in the world who is resistant to this virus which helps him as he fights through the city and streets of England trying to save the world from this seemingly undefeatable alien invasion.
Gameplay
The campaign mode begins by you being introduced to Sgt. Nathan Hale. The story itself is told by another officer that served with your character, who narrates the story and relays what is occurring to Nathan Hale and the Chimera during the many cut scenes. Although this is just like most first person shooters the designers of the game have taken all current first person shooters into account and tried to incorporate all the good parts of other games. The gameplay is very precise just like Medal of Honour or Call Of Duty, yet being in an alternate past with an alien invasion, the style also feels like your playing Halo or Half-Life. The game itself is challenging and there is a good variety of different enemies. Other than the Chimera, some of these include small scorpion like creatures that hunt in great numbers and at fast pace, massive mechanical technology to even giant aggressive animal-like creatures. All the enemies are intelligent, hiding when you fire and waiting for you to make some movement before they attack. Their intelligence is really noticeable in higher difficulty levels when you do have to outsmart the enemy, not just run out and blast. The game is not only about killing - you do have small puzzle sections to the game where you must activate certain switches to open doors or activate lifts.
You have a health bar that is divided up into quarters. Because you have been infected with the Chimeran disease, if you do not get hit for a period of time, you gain the regeneration abilities of the Chimera. During this time of no injury, your health gets recharged to the nearest quarter. There are automatic checkpoints during the game which you re-spawn at when (continued next page)
